This year’s showcase takes place Sunday, December 14 at 5:30 p.m. at the Nicholas J. Horn Theater, College of Southern Nevada, located at 3200 E. Cheyenne Ave, North Las Vegas, NV 89030.
For more than 25 years, Takin’ It to the Streets has brought audiences to their feet with unforgettable performances that inspire and entertain. Admission options include:

This year’s lineup showcases the incredible talent of Culture Shock Las Vegas and its youth troupes—Future Shock, Mighty Shock, Mini Shock, and Awesome Shock—delivering an electrifying blend of dance and creativity. Help Kids Understand Anxiety
Sometimes young people can be anxious without recognizing it. They might seem extra-
irritable when they're really terribly frightened and don't know how to handle it. You must
help your kids understand and label their anxiety. Teach them about the common signs of
anxiety, and talk to them about the situations that trigger those symptoms in them. Explain
why it is important to develop strategies to cope with anxiety because it is going to be part of
their lives, and work to build their confidence through emotional support, coaching, and
involvement in their activities.
Give Kids Options for Coping
You must also give your kids plenty of options for coping with their anxiety. Some of these
may be immediate activities they can turn to when anxiety strikes. You might, for instance,
suggest they listen to their favorite music and even get up and dance. Hip-hop dance, in
fact, can be a terrific anxiety reducer, for it gets kids' bodies moving, focuses their attention
on music and motion, and allows them to express themselves creatively. Culture Shock Las
Vegas has many classes that can help kids get started.
You can also introduce kids to various breathing techniques, get them started on arts-and-
crafts projects, and encourage them to write journals. Don't neglect the merits of healthy
eating habits, exercise routines, time outdoors, and plenty of opportunities for fun with
family and friends. Be careful about how much pressure you're putting on your kids to
succeed in school and all their activities, too. Encourage them to do their best, but don't
push too hard.
Seek Help as Needed
If your child's anxiety is severe and you're out of ideas to manage it, you may have to seek
help. Talk to your child's doctor or a counselor at your child's school for a recommendation.
A psychologist might be able to get to the root of the problem and offer more techniques for
coping. Don't think you're failing as a parent if you need to reach out for more help.
Actually, you're doing what's best for your kids so that they can grow into healthy, well-
balanced people who have the tools they need to do well in life.
Model Anxiety Management
Finally, one of the best ways you can help your kids manage their anxiety is to model your
own anxiety management techniques. Let them see how you handle stress and anxiety, and
talk to them about your favorite techniques. You might find your own anxiety levels
dropping.
As you model anxiety management for your kids, you might discover the need to make
some changes in your life. If your current job in San Diego, is extremely stressful, for
instance, perhaps it's time to move on. Face your own fears about starting a new career —
which can be an empowering process — and show your kids how to create new, more
positive experiences.
Conquer That Anxiety
While it's challenging to help your kids conquer their anxiety, it's certainly necessary. It’s
best to get started as soon as possible so they can develop skills they can carry with them
through adulthood.

3 Character Traits That Help Kids Make Better Choices
Making healthy life choices is hard work, but positive character traits help. Teaching your kids character may be as important as sending them to school to learn to read and write. When certain qualities are engrained, they simplify making good choices as well as sticking with them.
Culture Shock Las Vegas presents three personality traits that your kids need to overcome adversity and make healthy choices that help them accomplish their goals.
Determination
Determination can also be called passion or motivation — it's the force that drives you forward. When your kids have the determination to do well in school, master a hobby, or excel in an activity, it can help them avoid bad choices such as spending too much time on screens, which would keep them from succeeding.
Learning determination starts with positive reinforcement; not just any praise will do. Instead of focusing on the outcome, emphasize the behaviors you want your children to repeat. Praise the hard work your son put into completing a difficult homework assignment or the problem-solving skills your daughter used to finish a project.
However, building determination doesn't have to be a chore. You can look for fun group activities to enroll kids in, such as dance programs at Culture Shock Las Vegas, gymnastics, sports, or music. These activities require determination, and children can learn the behavior as well as the choices that can keep them physically and mentally healthy.
Resilience
When the going gets tough, your children need to adapt to keep going. Resilience is a person's ability to grow and change through adversity rather than let the challenges dictate the outcome. According to the American Psychological Association, kids aren't automatically either resilient or not; it's a way of thinking and acting they can learn.
Resilience gives a sense of control that promotes better choices during times of stress. While some people turn to alcohol, drugs, or other unhealthy behaviors to cope, resilient people, don't need unhealthy coping mechanisms. They often choose healthy activities such as mindfulness, meditation, yoga, and journaling, which reinforce positivity and reduce stress.
Persistence
To choose a healthy goal and see it through to the end, your kids need persistence. The more of this trait your kids have, the more they are likely to choose goals that need more time commitment, such as learning to play a musical instrument or completing a college degree program. To master persistence, they need to know how to fail and keep trying. This can be hard for you, as it's natural to want to help your kids. However, instead of coming to the rescue whenever your child fails, prompt them to identify the issue and work out how to overcome it.
You can also teach persistence effectively through modeling this behavior yourself by choosing a goal of your own and achieving it. For example, if you feel that your job is not fulfilling, you may pursue a business or marketing degree online. Your kids get to see you focus your passion for management, accounting, and marketing on a degree program. As you work to complete your degree, they will realize the healthy choices and the sacrifices you make.
When it comes to a child's education, it's easy to focus exclusively on aptitudes for math or science. However, when you emphasize character as well as academic learning, you give your children the tools to make healthy choices, no matter where their dreams take them.

MORE DETAILS:
Troupes rehearse 2 to 4 hours per week (might be more) and performs periodically at Culture Shock sponsored events and community performances.
Practices are held Saturdays and or Sundays.
Highly recommended to have additional classes during the weekdays, 4 totals or more a month.
Troupe fee is $35 monthly + uniform fee per dancer for Future Shock, Mighty/Mini Shock which, in conjunction with generous donations, and sponsorship makes it possible to provide education and artistic programs for Southern Nevada youth.
Troupes are directed by members of the professional Culture Shock troupe.
Troupe members must maintain a “C” average during the season.
Troupe members receive discounted prices at Culture Shock’s Classes, Company and Master Classes.

]]>Twice a month Mark Shunock gathers an eclectic cast of guests including stars from Hollywood, the Strip, musical acts, athletes, and celebrity chefs for 90 minutes of chat, entertainment – and a lot of laughs. Since 2013, Mondays Dark has partnered with over 30 local charities. It’s mission is to raise 10k in 90 minutes. The $20 variety show has become one of the hottest tickets in town and the list of charities waiting to partner with Mondays Dark continues to grow. Mondays Dark has raised over $500,000 and every penny has stayed here in Las Vegas with each of it’s featured charities.
CULTURE SHOCK LAS VEGAS
Serving Southern Nevada since 1995, Culture Shock Las Vegas is a 501c (3) non-profit educational, professional urban dance company and youth-outreach program. The purpose of Culture Shock Las Vegas is to provide dance training, as well as educational, cultural, and community enrichment programs to all people, especially to underprivileged youth in Southern Nevada. Our dedication to art, culture, and enrichment provides countless opportunities to our youth that come from disadvantaged backgrounds. CSLV strives to work with local special-needs children, giving them the opportunity develop new skills and self-confidence. In addition, CSLV recently expanded our outreach to include adults and seniors, as well as offering structured classes as a way to stay in shape.
We are partnering with Mondays Dark for their fundraising event on November 4, from 8:00 PM – 11:00 PM at The Space, 3460 Cavaretta Ct, Las Vegas, Nevada 89103 benefiting our non-profit organization. Come and enjoy the evening with us.
